Basics Of Casino Roulette
Casino roulette is a popular table game at many casinos. The name roulette comes from the French word meaning small wheel. The game begins by a player choosing his or her bets. You can choose to place your bet on the colors red or black, any of the numbers, if the number will be odd or even, or any combination of these bets.
After you place your bets, the croupier spins the roulette wheel in one direction and then drops the ball into a circular track running around the casino roulette wheel. Once the ball losses its momentum, it drops into the inner roulette wheel and into one of the 38 (American casino roulette) or 37 (European casino roulette) numbered and colored pockets.
Types of bets
Outside bets:
Outside bets usually have better odds but with smaller payouts
Red or Black: a bet on which of the colors will come up
Even or Odd: a bet on if the number will be even or odd
1 to 18: a bet on one of the first low eighteen numbers.
19 to 36: a bet on one of the last high eighteen numbers
Dozen Bets: a bet on the first (1-12), second (13-24), or third group (25-36) of twelve numbers.
Column Bets: a bet on all 12 numbers on any of the three vertical lines
Inside bets
Lower odds of winning but have higher payouts
Split: a bet on two adjoining numbers, either on the vertical or horizontal (as in 28-29 or 4-5). The chip is placed on the line between these numbers.
Six Line: a bet on two adjoining streets
Straight up: a single number bet. The chip is placed entirely on the middle of a number square.
Corner (also known as a square): a bet on four numbers like; 8,9,10,11
Trio: a bet on the point between 0, 1 and 2, or 00, 2 and 3.
Street: a bet on three numbers on a single horizontal line.
After the ball drops and a winning color and number are determined, the dealer will place a marker on the winning color and number on the roulette table. When the deal places the marker on the table, no one can remove any bets from the able, collect any bets, or make any new bets. At this point the dealer will give out all the payouts to the winners and rake away the losing bets. A new round of betting begins after the dealer has made his payouts.
