You should never bluff just to bluff, it makes no sense to have a really bad hand and try your luck at bluffing. There is no rules when it comes to bluffing in poker, you dont have to do it X amount of times and the level of the bluff is totally up to you its just that new players dont feel like they are playing true poker unless they throw in a few bluff hands.

Another circumstance when I wouldnt bluff is if a player has too much money in the pot, this is because people are less likely to fold if they already have a lot of money at risk.

You have to take the amount of players still in the hand into consideration, the more players there are the more chance of at least one of them has a fairly good hand they will take to show down.
